Salading masterclass in Lorne brings industry and community together
At the Love My Salad masterclass event in Lorne on the 9th of June, industry members, community groups and the general public were brought together to share and sample salads and add colour to their life. The event was a great example of how industry can use Love My Salad to connect with consumers through celebrating the fun, joy and versatility of vegetables.
The Hydroponic Farmers Federation (HFF) kindly donated $10 bags of fresh produce for attendees to purchase with all proceeds going to the local Lorne Fire Brigade. $2000 was raised in support of a great local cause.
The main attraction of the masterclass was the two sensational salads created by Love My Salad ambassador and chef, Christopher Howe. The salads went down a treat, with everyone being encouraged to create and share salads with family and friends. The recipes can be found here for you to try: A Japanese style miso roasted eggplant salad and a Fattoush salad with a tangy smoked eggplant dressing.
President of the HFF, John Elford said the aim of the event was to "share our knowledge and passion behind salads with stories and recipes written by contributors such as chefs, growers and salad lovers. Our aim is to reinforce the positive message that eating vegetables is fun and enjoable."
Love My Salad representative, Frances Tolson spoke of a memorable moment at the end of the event after all bags of produce had been taken. "One lady came late in the day and all we had to offer her were some eggplants, but she didn't know what to do with them, she said. "After being handed one of the salads to taste, the lady took two eggplants home with her to have a go at making the salad that night."
One of the main aims of Love My Salad is to give people more confidence in the kitchen to create and share salads at home with friends and family.
