Ingredients

  • 450 grams oyster mushrooms
  • 2 teaspoons shawarma spices
  • 400 grams cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 15 grams fresh dill, plus extra for garnish
  • 100 ml yogurt
  • 1 red onion
  • 4–8 pita breads
  • 100 grams feta
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper

We all know shawarma, but did you know you can make a delicious shawarma dish with oyster mushrooms? These meaty mushrooms are perfect for this. They absorb flavors well and maintain their meaty texture even after cooking. In this recipe, you'll top them with cherry tomatoes and serve with a tasty tzatziki. Delicious!

Preparation

  • Heat oil or butter in a frying pan. Tear the largest oyster mushrooms into pieces and cook them in the pan for about 10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Add the shawarma spices and cook for a few more minutes.
  • Meanwhile, quarter the cherry tomatoes.
  • Coarsely grate the cucumber and finely grate the garlic cloves. Chop the dill. Mix the dill, cucumber, and garlic in a bowl with the yogurt, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Slice the red onion into thin half-rings.
  • Prepare the pita breads according to the package instructions.
  • Place the pita breads on plates and spread some of the tzatziki sauce over them. Top with the oyster mushroom shawarma, cherry tomatoes, and red onion. Crumble the feta over the top and sprinkle with fresh dill. Serve immediately.
