At Rocky Ponds Produce we produce a range of melons: rockmelons, green honeydew and yellow honeydew and Piel de Sapo melons, as well as yellow, green and red capsicums and pumpkins. Our family farm operates on 2,000 acres in Gumlu, about 13 hours’ drive north of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.
I’m Des Chapman and alongside my wife Paula, we’ve run Rocky Ponds Produce for 40 years. Our farm started on 140 acres, but we’ve grown over time and now use the most modern technology from picking to packing, to a state-of-the-art nursery and computerised irrigation which allows us to monitor the farm from our phones, anywhere in the world.
In addition to exporting to New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai, for more than 25 years we’ve supplied produce to Coles. This is where you might have seen our yellow and red Rocky Ponds Produce sticker, with the kangaroo on your rockmelons, honeydews or Piel de Sapos.
